VLAFF SERIES IN COSTA RICA

The Vancouver Latin American Film Festival is pleased to announce a film series at the Cine Magaly, in San José, Costa Rica.

This is in collaboration with the Costa Rican film director Jurgen Ureña.

One of the things "/bent" is looking to explore in the coming months is the ever-potent relationship between literature, poetry and film. After the death this week of Gabriel Garcia Marquez we asked the poet Emma Scully Jones to reflect on his life and work in this context.

For this year's New Directors competition, we have opened it up to include first and second films. The Al Jazeera Documentary Award continues for its fourth year, as well as the Short Film competition.

The Vancouver Latin American Film Festival in collaboration with the UBC Department of History is pleased to present this series of films that offers a spotlight on issues in Mexico, Colombia and Cuba at the Museum of Anthropology at UBC. Museum admission $9 (includes film). Free for MOA members, UBC staff, students and faculty.

VLAFF'S ANNUAL SURVEY OF THE TOP LATIN AMERICAN FILMS OF 2013!

This year was once again an outstanding year for Latin American cinema. At the beginning of the year the Chilean actress Paulina García was awarded at the Berlin Film Festival with the Silver Bear for the film GLORIA, by Sebastián Lelio. Later on in May, the Mexican director Amat Escalante took the prize for Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival for his film HELI, and in an unprecedented achievement in Venezuelan film history, PELO MALO, by Mariana Rondón won the Golden Shell at the San Sebastián Film Festival.
